Periodontics & Dental Implants in Chicago, Illinois

Periodontics

Periodontics is the dental specialty that deals with infections and any other disturbances of the gums and bone, which are the supporting structures of the teeth. Our purpose is to save your natural teeth for as long as possible and to keep your mouth in a healthy state. When necessary, we can replace the missing teeth with dental implants.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are designed to provide a foundation for replacement teeth that look, feel, and function like natural teeth. The person who has lost teeth regains the ability to eat virtually anything and can smile with confidence, knowing that teeth appear natural and that facial contours will be preserved. The implants themselves are small titanium roots that are placed into the jawbone where teeth are missing. The bone bonds with the titanium, creating a strong foundation for artificial teeth. In addition, implants can help preserve facial structure, preventing the bone deterioration that occurs when teeth are missing.

In many cases single or multiple implants can be placed at the time of tooth extraction. With careful preparation of the extraction socket, any lost bone is reconstructed and the implant is placed where the previous tooth was located. This saves time, minimizes the number of surgical procedures and speeds up the healing process.
